COMMENTS:
The town was located near what was whiskey lake, now a dry lake bed. It was original named West Point or Island City. REMAINS: One foundation of limestone on my land |
Island City got its name from the fact that in certain times of the year, would be entirely surrounded by water. The water would eventually be called "Whiskey Lake". The Name of the place was afterwards changed to Whiskey Point, having derived the name From a preacher claiming he would rather die in Junction City than Live in Whiskey Point. Since this time it has been known as Whiskey Point. On May 14th 1862 two soldiers were killed and one wounded. On that same day The post provost marshall and a squad of men destroyed every saloon and brothel in town. The only real income for the town. The town soon died after that. now its mostly farm land except fro the foundation and a few artifacts we've found in the woods. This informatin was taken from the archives of post record from Ft. Riley Ks. Submitted by: John Vining |
