| Highland Park became a city in 1890, was annexed against the will of the citizens by Louisville Kentucky in 1922 in a fight that went all the way to the U. S. Supreme Court. After becoming a neighborhood of Louisville, the area continued to grow until it was claimed as a blighted area and destroyed for airport expansion. Highland Park residents consisted of mostly religious country people who came to the area for jobs.
