NAME: English - Kloman COUNTY: Menominee ROADS: 2WD GRID: 1 CLIMATE: Cold, snowy winters; warm summers BEST TIME TO VISIT: Late Spring to early Fall |
COMMENTS:
English/Kloman was located about 26 miles southwest of Escanaba, not too far from the present-day village of Ingalls. REMAINS: Nothing. |
The settlement was originally called English, and began in the 1870s as a RR stop, producing charcoal. By the 1890s, it had a general store and a post office, which operated from 1870 to 1895. In 1905, its name was changed to Kloman, the name of the person who owned the charcoal kilns and other businesses. Shortly thereafter, the settement disappears from the records of the post office and the state. Submitted by: Kurt Wenner |
