COMMENTS:
Ferry, formally known as Reed, sits halfway between Shelby & Hesperia, just 1.5 miles north of M20. It is beautifully set on the North Branch of the White River near the center of Oceana County REMAINS: A few storefronts, houses |
Reed was a prominant logging town of the 1800's. In 1871, Thomas Ferry, a Michigan Congressman had the name changed to Ferry in his honor. the town flourishe & continued to grow up through the early 1900's. After the lumber boom ended, the town began to die. The building of M20 to the south and abandonment of M82 throught the heart of this town caused its altimate demise. Submitted by: Lance Malburg |
