COMMENTS:
Two miles north of 223 on Sylvania Rd. at corner of School Rd. REMAINS: Post office and general store still stand, remodeled into duplex. Large farmhouse across blacktoppe road. |
Once had large farms in area. Post office ran from February, 1895 until March of 1904. Postmaster John Gulhouse ran a general store, PO and Cheese factory. The town was named for his infant daughter, Gretrude. Until two years ago (1998) the store and PO looked like they did a hundred year ago but the store's falxe front was removed and a new peak installed. A quaint place to visit and reflex on rural life a century ago. Submitted by: Rich Goss |
