Located on M-123, about 23 miles north of St Ignace. REMAINS: Abandoned store fronts and residences; Ozark, however, still has some residents. |
Ozark was founded in 1875, and its post office, which opened in 1877, was first known as Johnson; it wa a stop on the DM&M RR line. It began as a lumber town, but by the 1890s had numerous business enterprises. In the 1920s, it experienced a brief "boom', and expanded to over 300 persons. Decline set in after WWI, and the post office was closed in 1966. Submitted by: Kurt Wenner |
