COMMENTS:
Located 1 mile north and three miles east of Pickering, MO. Not much to see today. REMAINS: A farm home and a sign that says it was there. |
Prior to the railroad coming through Pickering and Hopkins, this town had a post office from 19 Feb 1857 to 15 Jan 1872. There was also a hotel, mercantile store, stagecoach stop, etc. my g-grandparents settled there in 1861 and he served as postmaster from 1862-1863. My grandfather was born there. My mother was born about two miles away, but grew up and attended a one-room school there. Submitted by: George Madden |
