Being on a main highway has extended the life of a town that otherwise would have been a ghost town much earlier. Melrose is one of those towns. Not itself a mining camp but rather a town that served as a supply depot for mining towns, Melrose is at an elevation of just over 5,000 feet in the Rockies and is only twenty miles from the Continental Divide. Some of the original log cabins have survived many a harsh winter and are still occupied. Submitted by Henry Chenowith.
