My family homesteaded in Hamar at the turn of the 20th century and the town thrived until the mid fifties. I don't the reason for the desertion but the mainstay of the town for years has been the bar staying open most of its business coming from the Spirit Lake Reservation, which is a dry reservation (alcohol prohibited).
