Town was originally a railroad town for farmers created by a Union Pacific man named Herman. He liked the place so much when they stoped to water the trains here that he bought some land and later it became known as the town of Herman after him. Once was totally wiped out in the early half of 1900's due to tornado passing through and has many old famous buildings standing including the Hwy 73 Steakhouse that used to double as a hotel under the ownership of famous Hollywood legend Hoot Gibson's parents. Most all buildings are 50% vacant as far as business, no service stations to be had, but mainstreet got facelift with old west style frontage being added in the past year. Town school is still in use, although not the original multi-story one that taught to high school level. Submitted by: Tim Edwards |
