Jan 17, 1903 shaft cave in in 1901 killed all but fourteen men and boys here minersville once had a thriving population of 1,000 the main industry were the coal shafts located in bluffs above town site. After changing sites and names several times after a man john bennet ran a ferry accross the missourri river so the original town was named for him (bennets ferry) but changed after area was found to be rich in coal deposits.
