Rock Creek was a Pony Express Station. A cabin was built at the site in 1857 and was then purchased by Dave McCanles in 1859. He built a toll bridge across Rock Creek and rented it to the Overland Stage Co. Wild Bill Hickok was hired as a stable hand here in 1861. Hickok's first murder was committed here. When the railroads replaced the stage routes, this station died. |
