NAME: Roscoe COUNTY: Keith ROADS: 2WD GRID: 2 CLIMATE: Cold winters, often snow; very warm summers BEST TIME TO VISIT: Any time |
COMMENTS:
Roscoe is on US30, about 7 mi east of Ogallala; Roscoe still has a few residents, so it is technically a semi-ghost town. REMAINS: Numerous abandoned buildings (stores and houses) |
Roscoe owes its existence to the South Platte River: it was a convenient crossing point during the days of the Oregon Trail (in the 19th century); it was not the best or most favored crossing point, however. The 20th century has rather passed it by, and whatever functions it performed have been taken over by larger towns nearby (Ogalalla). Submitted by: Kurt Wenner |
