This was a typical Pine Barrens village built around a bog iron furnace which was in operation starting sometime around 1800. Furnace closed sometime in the 1840s, during the time period when all other bog iron furnaces closed. Two paper mills were subsequently built. When they closed most people moved out, but a handful remained, apparently working elsewhere. The post office was in operation 1806-1819 (as Weymouth Furnace) and 1846-1923 (as Weymouth).
