Acomita. Settled by the indians of acoma, who have irrigated farms here. The name derives from the spanish diminutive, ita, suffixed to the keres indian word, acoma. It means, therefore, "little acoma" or "little place of the people of the white rock" Submitted by: Samuel W McWhorter
