Black Hawk was another silver mining town of rather short duration. A rich silver float in the Bullard's Peak district of the Burro Mountains was discovered in 1881. The discovery of the Blue Bell Mine, the Black Hawk and Rose mines saw the beginning of the town. The town had about thirty men employed at the mines during the summer of 1883 and about one hundred and twenty-five by November of the same year. Black Hawk boomed from 1885 to 1887. When production began to decline, the town died. Today all that is left are some mine dumps to mark its place in history.
