CANONCITO. Trading point 15 mi SE of Santa Fe; in a defile where the old Santa Fe Trail enteres Apache Canyon. Here the Mexican ogovernor, Armijo, failed to hold his troops against General Kearny in August 1846, and here the Confederate supply train was destroyed by the Union general, Canby, in 1862, determining the battle of Glorieta in favor of the Union forces.
