Colmor has little known history. The name is derived from the two counties it is closest to (Colfax and Mora counties "COL-MOR"). Mostly a ranching community it also depended on the railroad which went through town, and still does. There is a creek and plenty of ranch land. Colmor is situated on the beginning of the "Great Plains." Just to the west of the town is the great Rocky Mountains. There were at the height of Colmor 450 residents. The last one of which died just over a year ago. A dozen intact houses line the main street and there are a few around the hills to the east of town. One gas station, with pumps still ready to be used and the school house consists of the main part of town. The train depot sits east across the tracks. Over-grown trees and cattle now claim the area. The town seemed to have begun its decline in the 1970's for most of the houses have a 70's decor. I am not sure why Colmor has become a ghost town, but I will find out. No post office seemed evident, however some of the buildings were no longer due to a fire, which also gutted the still impressive school house. Colmor is situated in a beautiful setting and next time I visit I will take my camera. When I have pictures I will post them on the website. Submitted by: Robert Garcia
