South of Engle REMAINS: Only a railroad sign remains. |
The town
was named for a railroad engineer and once had 3,500 people. It boomed during the area's mining days, including the mining of vanadium in the nearby Caballo Mountains. It had its own post office 1907-56, but faded as mining failed. Today, it is a ranching area, with only a railroad sign remaining from its glory days. Courtesy Michael Cook. |
