The postoffice at Delphos was commissioned March 2, 1905, on US Highway 70 and the AT &SF RR. It had a great potential in the early days, exemplified byit name that came from the classical Delphos in Greece. The post office remained in operation until 1940 when Portales acquired mail routes in the surrounding area.Dryland farms in the area produce enough grain for the establishment of grain elevators and cattle feeding pens. The sign, Delphhos, is still on the railroad right of way signifying the railroad switch. Now, isn't that nice? Submitted by: Samuel W McWhorter |
