DOMINGO. Trading point for Santo Domingo Indian Pueblo, near US 85, 39 mi NE of Albuquerque. Named for the pueblo.Span. "St. Dominic". Pre spanish Indian pueblo 4 mi N of US 85 near AT & SF RR, 29 mi SW of Santa fe. Formerly called Quiqui or Quigui. Tradition has it that Onate contributed the name because he arrifed here on Sunday, Span. domingo. Whatever the circumstance, it is certain that the name of the mission church commemorates st. Dominic, thirteenth-century preacher, known as Dominicans. The old pueblo of Cundio also had him for a patron.SANTO DOMINGO PUEBLO GRANT. Sandoval County. Running from NW to SE, the Grant extends about 10 me on each side of the Rio Grande. Santo Domingo presented a cruzate document grantinglands to the pueblo on Sepptember 20, 1689; but the Pueblo also has a document signed by Governor Mendinueta on Sept. 10, 1770, presenting congiguous grants to Santo Domingo and to San Felipe pueblos.
