FORT SELDEN. Ruins of the fort are 15 mi N of Las Cruces ner US 85 and 9 mi NJ of Dona Ana, on E bank of the Rio Grande. there were garrisons here from 1865 until April 1879. Name honors Col. Henry R. Selden, 1st New Mexico Infantry and one time captain of the 5th US Infantry. General Douglas MacArthur was a child here when his father was commanding officer of the fort.
