A very small town REMAINS:Not much |
Nestled high in the Cimarron Mountain Range are the deserted log cabin ruins of the town of Midnight, a short-lived gold mining camp. Settled by a group of miners and their families about 1895, a group of claims known as the Midnight, Memphis, Caribel, Edison, and Anchor were worked close to the town. Short on mining equipment, much hard labor yielded enough gold to sustain life for about three years. The lack of free-milling ores and land litigation problems are the reasons for the town's demise. About half a mile east of Midnight was the mining camp of Anchor. It's life was also brief and it never had much of a population. Courtesy Henry Chenoweth. |
