Typical Mining town REMAINS:Nothing Left |
The Modoc Mine produced mostly lead from the late 1870s to 1905. The town itself consisted of only a few frame buildings and a mill located about seven hundred feet below the mine at the foot of the granite bluffs of the Organ Mountains. During the mine's period of operations, it produced about $200,000, mostly in lead. When the mine stopped producing, the town died. Nothing is left today.Courtesy Henry Chenoweth. |
