NEWCOMB. On US 666 and Captain Tom's Wash, 52 mi N of Gallup. Originally called Nava, fom first syllables of Navajo. In 1914, Arthur J. Newcomb, and his wife, Frances L. Newcomb, established a trading post here. In 1920, the post office at Crozier was located at Newcomb Trading Post. A day school and houses for the teachers and other employees were built by the uS Bureau of Indian Affairs. Today the locality bears the name Newcomb. The trading post is otherwise designated.
