PARK

NAME: PARK
COUNTY: SOCORRO
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 4
CLIMATE: Hot summer. Cold winters.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: any time
COMMENTS: PARK. In certain areas of NM, chiefly N and W, 'park' is used, as it is in Colorado, to describe a valley shut in by high hills or mountains. This is an old English usage but it also was common to the early French trappers who came to the Rocky Mts. for beaver and other furbearing animals. They spelled the word 'pare' applying to a cleared, grassy basin that served as a kind of enormous pen or corral for deer, buffalo, and other wild animals.
