COMMENTS:
Approximately one mile south and six miles west of Prairieview, Lea County. REMAINS: Rock foundations. |
A thriving Boomtown in the 1910's, the community of Plainview once boasted a population of over 500 people. Mostly farmers and ranchers, the citizens of Plainview had mostly abandoned the small town by 1926. The rapid economic growth of Lovington, the neighboring town a few miles south of Plainview, drew many of its residents away, and the small town was completely abandoned by 1929. Today, not a single building remains standing at the old town site, with nothing but a few old rock foundations left to indicate that this small, but thriving community ever existed.
