Portales spring. One of the regular watering places on the ft. Sumner trail. The earliest settler here was doak good, who moved to the springs in 1881. When he first arrived, he lived in the caves from whence the springs flow. The caves resemble the porches of mexico adobe houses, hence the name. Portales nm gets its name from the springs.
