SERVILLETA. Span., 'napkin, flat plain.' Farming and ranching community on US 285 and old DYRGW RR, 21 mi NW of Taos. Name first applied to Sevilleta Plaza in Rio Arriba, an old Spanish settlement on the Rio Tusas, 2 mi from Taos County line,. When the railroad was built, 1880/85, the name was transferred to the railroad siding, where the village grew.
