The Cactus Springs district was first worked in 1901 when turquoise deposits were discovered on Cactus Peak. Prospectors discovered the largest mine in the district, the Cactus Nevada Silver mine, in 1904. Although the mine is large in size, it did not return a sufficiently large enough profit to keep a mining company at the site for more than a year or two. The last company to work the Cactus Springs area was the Gresham Gold Miming Company in 1924. The company stopped operations in 1927. The site was later included in the Nellis Air Force Bombing and Gunnery Range isolating the ghosts of Cactus Springs from all human contact.
