During the summer of 1907 a Clinton Beard discovered a small deposit of gold that ignited about fifty people to take up residence near Beard’s claim. But Beard’s claim was the only one that had any value and the others soon moved away. He refused an offer of $50,000 for his claim. Soon thereafter the vein disappeared and he later died penniless.
