The Junction post office opened in 1873 on the Austin-Belmont stage line. It was the main post office for the northern part of Smoky Valley. The post office closed in 1906 after most of the mining activity in the valley had ceased. A ranch is still active at Junction and a few old buildings remain as relics of the early activity.
