REVEILLE (GILA) MILL

NAME: Reveille (Gila) Mill
COUNTY: Nye
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Was just a mill
REMAINS: Unknown.

The Gila mill was built in early 1869 and was twelve miles west of Old Reveille because that was the nearest source of consistent water. Gila mill treated ore from mines at Reveille. There were two mills at the site, a ten-stamp mill and a five-stamp mill. The two mills stopped production in late 1869 when the company owners lost their financial backing. The mills reopened in 1875 and continued to run until 1879 and were again restarted in 1881 and ran until 1884. The mill did not reopen until 1904 when new discoveries were made at New Reveille and operated on and off until 1948. The Gila mill was not a town but is included here because it played an important role in Reveille’s history.
