ROMANO

NAME: Romano
COUNTY: Eureka
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Interesting country.
REMAINS: Ranch

Romano was never more than a ranching settlement and a small one at that with a population of fewer than 20. But regardless of its size, it was very important to the people of Diamond Valley. A post office was established in 1902 and served as the mail depot for all the ranchers in Diamond Valley, thus saving the residents the trip into Eureka to get their mail. The post office closed in 1929 but the ranch continued to operate until around the 1970s when it was abandoned. The main ranch house remains. A visit will be quite enjoyable.
