TOYAH

NAME: Toyah
COUNTY: Nye
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Not worth the trip
REMAINS: Hardly anything

Toyah was a stop on the Belmont-Ione stage run in the 1860s. Located at the highest point of Ophir Canyon, the station served as a rest stop for the horses after the tough climb up the mountain. Only a large wooden cabin was ever built there. There was only very limited mining that ever took place there. Hardly a trace remains of Toyah. There are some scattered test tailing piles along the road where the station once stood.
