Perhaps not a true ghost "town", in that it was never incorporated (no Post Office) and was always entirely on privater property. The promise of a railroad being built through Levi Valentine's property prompted him to build a massive multi-story wooden town hall and commercial center for his new town of "Valentown". The railroad venture failed, the tracks never came, but Valentown survived into the twentieth centry as a local meeting house and a venue for several shops and stores and even a local music school, all housed in the one building. In 1940, the then abandoned structure was purchased by Mr. Fishers who turned it into a museum. Submitted by: Kerry Tillerr |
