In 1883, the town that grew up around the Brilliant Glass Works in Wells Township was incorporated as the village of Brilliant. In addition to the factory, it was thought the coal mines and railroad would make Brilliant the small town of the future. But as those but as those businesses declined, so did Brilliant. In 1993, its people voted to dissolve the village government and are now under the jurisdiction of Wells Township.
