Near the headwaters of Pennington Creek was the Post village of Alhambra, located in Section 17 - Township 1 South Range 5 East, in Northwest Johnston County, about 4 miles North of the present village of Mill Creek. A post office was formed May 5, 1896 and lasted until May 31, 1904. No longer in existence, it is named from a fortress near Granda, Spain. The school located in District 15, Section 21 - Township 1 South - Range 5 East, Southwest quarter, was called Bellwood school formed in 1906 and consolidated with Mill Creek in 1945.
