Prior to the land run of 1889 (april 22) this area known as cowboy flats was well known to the cattle drovers, indians, and outlaws of the area. Some of the more notable outlaws include: elsworth wyatt (alias "zip" whyatt-dick yeager), bill powers, the dalton gang, dick broadwell.A townsite plat was filed nov.14,1899 and a post office existed from feb. 29 1904 - may 31, 1947. Ther are numerous accounts of outlaw activityin the area. Several military camps and several cowboy camps. Oklahoma has a rich history of outlaws/cowboys/military/indians and is fairly easy to research due to its well documented. Submitted by: W.D.G
