NAME: Cross COUNTY: Kay ROADS: 4WD GRID: 1 CLIMATE: cold winters, hot summers BEST TIME TO VISIT: Fall |
COMMENTS:
This town was actually the main-feeder or "Pater Familias" to Ponca City. Most all the important historical families first lived in Cross, which also had the only Post Office for that area. REMAINS: Oklahoma Historical Marker |
Cross, Oklahoma Territory...predated the 1893 Cherokee Strip Run (last of the three "Runs") and was the supplies outlet for those people who staked their claims in (what later became known as Kay County). Cross had a town government, but after the Santa Fe railroad chose Ponca City as a terminal...the township of Cross eventually became absorbed into what is now Ponca City, OK.
