From Eufaula, OK drive 6 miles west on state Hwy 9. Go 4 miles north on CR N4110, west 1 mile, north again 1 mile, west again 3 miles and you are there. REMAINS: Two churches, cemetery, foundations, Few houses. |
The area was a farming area and during prohibition it is said that every family in the area was distilling moonshine except for the Church of Christ preacher, and many thought he was too. "Mutt" McGuire's moonshine was held in particular esteem by area residents. Cemetery has many interesting tombstones. A few people still live in the area. There are a Church of Christ and Baptist Church that still holds services. There was a Post Office in an old general store that burnt several years ago. I beleive the mail is all rural routes out of Eufaula these days. My great-grandfather lived in the area as, well as numerous other relatives. I still visit there on occasion as most of the family from my father's side are buried in the cemetery. Submitted by: GW Calvert |
