COMMENTS:
Lucille Hamons is still there at her business. Located 1 mile W of Hydro exit off I-40 and on Route 66. Exig is 67 miles West of Oklahoma City. REMAINS: Hamons Station still there but called Lucille's and Hilltop Cafe building.. barely hanging on. |
This place was named to the National Historic Registry in Oct. 1997. It was called Provine because there were 3 thriving businesses at this intersection during the days of Route 66. There was Hamons Court that still standing, Kirk's Texaco that was torn down to build I-40, and the Hilltop Cafe. Route 66 travelers had many options at this site with 3 brands of gas, 2 motels, a great place to eat, and the Hamons' farm animals that usually ran loose and begged tourist for candy.
