COMMENTS:
Parker's Glen, Pennsylvania was originally named Carr's Rock. There have been no residents since August 20, 1955, when the lower part of the community was obliterated and flushed into the Delaware River during Hurricane Diane.http://www.shohola.com/township REMAINS: Grave Yards, Foundations, some structures, Railroad water tower, flumes, pipelines and railroad tracks. |
Carr's Rock was renamed Parker's Glen after a tragic Erie Railroad accident on April 17, 1868 in an effort to erase the name Carr's Rock from memory. The community peaked at more than 1000 residents around 1900 and was famous for its Bluestone Quarries. Pike County Bluestone was shipped around the world for building material and sidewalks until cement was introducted. The town was destroyed by hurricane Diane in August of 1955.http://www.shohola.com/township Submitted by: Thomas Gibson |
