NAME: Ardmore COUNTY: Fall River County ROADS: 2WD GRID: 2 CLIMATE: Cold Winters and warm to hot Summers BEST TIME TO VISIT: During the Spring and Summer |
COMMENTS:
The classic ghost town. Ardmore is completely abandoned. The place is heavily over grown with prairie grasses and trees REMAINS: Several buildings all of which are in poor condition. An old water tower and old rusty or rotted farm equipment. |
Don't know when the town was founded. Calvin Coolridge went through this town in 1927 when it was worthy of a visit from the president. Ardmore survived the Great Depression with none of it's population on Federal aid. However it was eventually abandoned. It suffered a fate similar to that of numerous towns throughout the Great Plains. The town's youth left in search of jobs and education never to come back. The older people who stayed either moved later or died. When the last resident left is not known. Submitted by: Ryan Gasch |
