Homesteading is much the same everywhere. To develop a spacious prairie has many problems, heartaches, sacrifices, and sometimes tragedies. Coal Springs was no exception. Located in that are was a lignite coal mine which furnished the early settlers with their winter’s supply of coal. Springs of water were found at the mine so the name Coal Springs was derived form the two sources combined. Submitted by: Ryan
