As Dakota territory became settled and more people took up homesteads in the area, the U.S. gov't established a post office known as Heppner, S. Dakota....was established about 1914 & in operation until about 1945....settled by Johann Hoeppner (John Heppner...the Heppner Ranch is still run by the family heirs of Edgemont, So.
