Est. 1876, has a great railroad museum, and a population of 650 residents. Another one of severalhistoric mining towns located in thebeautiful Black Hills of South Dakota Submitted by: Bob stelow .

Hill City was the second town in the Hills founded in 1876. It soon became a ghost town as miners, disappointed by not finding enough gold, fled to newer claims in the Hills. The tin boom in the 1880s brought the town back to life. Hill City is still alive and worth a visit to see the elaborate back bar that still serves the town's municipal saloon and liquor store. Also worth seeing is the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad depot. Submitted by: Henry Chenoweth.
