Town was formed in the 1870's. A post office was added about 1879. The town grew to include a school, two stores, two churches, saw mills and a cotton gin. The town peaked with a population around 500 at the turn of the century but began to decline after the Texas State Railroad bypassed it in favor of a site about three miles south. Most of the residents moved to the new town of Maydelle founded on the site of the railroad. By the 1940's the town had pretty much passed into history. Submitted by: Steve George |
