Gunsight was a boom town at one time, complete with post office and small downtown. As oil boom ebbed, so did Gunsight. Origin of the name is arguable. One is that the Indians called it the site of many guns. Another is that the mountain (small) has a slot that looks like a gun site. Some of the graves in the cemetery are sandstones left to mark graves the pioneers buried their dead in as they headed west. Also some graves still exist that are covered with rectangular pyramids of sandstones to keep animals from digging up the graves.Lue Submitted by: Luetta Christie
