First known as Cotton Plant, Texas, the town had a post office under that name in operation from 1850 through the end of the Civil War. A new post office opened in 1876 under the name Iron Bridge. The population in the mid-1880s was 150. The post office closed in 1891. In 1905 Iron Bridge reported two schools with a total enrollment of 129. Iron Bridge melted away into oblivion - it was dropped from maps as early as the 1930s. Submitted by: Chuck Lostetter
